Alexandre Herchcovitch showcased his 2014 Summer Southern Hemisphere Womens Runway Collection during Fashion Rio at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Herchcovitch has been one of the pioneers of fashion forward denim designs transcending traditional pieces, exploring couture culture yet entertaining the tastes of modernity. This upcoming season, the inspiration came from coal mine workers, field laborers and 1970s-80s The American West by Richard Avedon.
Denim fabrics and jeanswear pieces dominated the catwalk through long farm dresses, work outfits, one piece body jumpsuits, pleated cropped jean trousers, jacketalls, skirtalls and overall salopettes. There were different denim treatments and fabrics such as acid wash bleached tie dye effects, Japanese raw selvedge dry denim imported by Vicuña, retro ultra faded light indigo and blackish dark indigo tones.
Trendy design highlights featured flap front pockets on denim dresses, multi-paneled fabrics, tie up ribbons, fresh one piece interpretations such as a motorcycle biker jacket-dress combination and an overalls-button down shirt-skirt mix. Accessories included large denim tote bags, low top gladiator strap heels, brown leather purses with a skull graphic and aviator clear spectacles. Duly noted were the neon green eye popping colors on overall-combishorts, striped dresses with a large leather chest pocket, rustic chocolate-caramel leather on rider skirtall or overall dress.
